Review of Financial Year 06/07 - Futures and Options trading exceeds 125% of NEM underlying physical demand

Over the past financial year the d-cypha SFE Electricity Futures and Options volume has been robust with a total of 115,169 contracts trading, representing 243 million MWh which equates to a face value of $11.89 billion. These statistics are at least 300% higher than those in FY 05/06. Additionally Open Interest reached new levels of 40,272 contracts (COB 29 June 2007), this equates to a record face value of $7.76 billion.

The heaviest traded month was March 2007 in which 40.1 million MWh traded, equivalent to 240% of NEM underlying physical demand.
